We aim to collect only information reasonably necessary for lawful purposes connected with our business.

Why we collect personal information

We may collect and use personal information to respond to enquiries, prepare quotations, schedule and carry out work, communicate with customers, manage accounts and invoices, provide servicing and repairs, manage warranty matters, maintain business records and establish legitimate commercial relationships.

We may also use appropriate publicly available business-contact information to introduce BS Energy Services to businesses where our services are reasonably relevant to the person's professional role or organisation.

How we collect information

We may collect information directly from you when you contact us, submit an enquiry, request a quotation or service, become a customer or supplier, or otherwise communicate with us.

For legitimate business development, we may also collect limited professional contact information from genuinely publicly available business sources, such as an organisation's official website or other unrestricted public business information.

We do not intend to obtain prospect information from leaked information, harvested email databases, questionable purchased contact lists, or by bypassing website access restrictions.

Information collected indirectly

Where we collect personal information from someone or somewhere other than the individual concerned, we will comply with applicable requirements of the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, including Information Privacy Principle 3A where it applies.

Where required, we will take reasonable steps to make the individual aware that their information has been collected, why it was collected, who is collecting and holding it, intended recipients, and their rights to request access to and correction of their information.

Notification may not be required where an applicable exception under the Privacy Act applies, including in appropriate circumstances where the information is publicly available information.

Business development communications

BS Energy Services may use appropriate business-contact information to introduce relevant electrical, air-conditioning, heat pump, ventilation, refrigeration or maintenance services to businesses where there is a genuine connection between our services and the recipient's professional role or responsibilities.

Commercial electronic communications will also be handled in accordance with applicable New Zealand requirements governing commercial electronic messages.

Recipients may ask us not to send further marketing or business-development communications. We will maintain appropriate records of those requests so they can be respected.

How we may use and disclose information

We generally use personal information for the purpose for which it was collected or another purpose permitted by law.

Where reasonably necessary, information may be available to service providers assisting BS Energy Services, including accounting, IT and cloud service providers, and contractors or subcontractors involved in providing requested services.

BS Energy Services currently uses services including Google services such as Gmail and business records, and Xero for accounting and invoicing.

We may also disclose information where required or permitted by New Zealand law.

Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, disclosure or other misuse.

Retention

We will not retain personal information longer than reasonably required for the purposes for which it may lawfully be used.

We may retain limited information where necessary to honour a request not to receive further marketing or business-development communications.

You have rights under the Privacy Act 2020 to request access to personal information BS Energy Services holds about you and to request correction of that information.
